Used 2011 Jeep Compass Philadelphia

The 2011 Jeep Compass gets a few changes, including a new front - end resulting in more of a family resemblance to the Grand Cherokee. Also new for the 2011 model year is a Trail Rated Compass. Inside, the Compass gets revamped and upgraded. Overall, it boasts a quieter cabin with more soft-touch materials, better handling, and more traditional Jeep capabilities. It is a good competitor in its class against contenders that include the Dodge Caliber and Nissan Rogue. But the Compass boasts more off-road capability than others it competes against - albeit not as much as other Jeep vehicles. The 2011 Jeep Compass offers a good blend of drivability, capability and comfort.

Driving the 2011 Jeep Compass

The drivability of the 2011 Jeep Compass has been much improved over previous versions. The continuously variable transmission provides the extra oomph where you need it. One thing you'll find on this small crossover that you won't on others is its excellent handling over messy terrain. You can cross stream beds and tackle snowy roads in this vehicle. It delivers the power you need at low speeds. And now with the addition of Hill Descent Control, you can rest assured that this bad boy is ready for just about anything - from the weekend excursion to the weekday commute. Lastly, the ride is just more comfortable than it used to be. Jeep has done a good job of upgrading the features to ensure that occupants enjoy the driving experience.

'11 Compass Exterior

The 2011 Jeep Compass boasts a new front end that makes it look more a part of the Jeep family. In fact, it looks like the Grand Cherokee's little brother - at least from the front. You'll see a seven-slot grille, a restyled front bumper and new headlights. In the back, the Compass gets less noticeable changes - but these include a new rear bumper and new taillights. Additional exterior features include standard 17-inch aluminum wheels (18-inch optional), fog lights (standard), optional power sunroof, optional chrome exhaust tip, and LED taillights.

Inside the 2011 Jeep Compass

The 2011 Compass has received numerous improvements to the inside - starting with the thicker insulation which provides a much more quiet ride. Other interior improvements include a new steering wheel, new cloth upholstery, backlit switches, and new trim on the front doors. Standard features include a 60/40 split folding rear seat, cruise control, air conditioning, and deep tint sunscreen glass, power windows with driver's one-touch-down feature, power locks, a rechargeable LED flashlight, bright side roof rails, and heated side mirrors. Options include a navigation system and premium audio system. The 2011 Jeep Compass also comes with a host of standard safety features including traction control, hill start assist (with manual transmission), antilock brakes, side curtain airbags, and electronic stability control with electronic roll mitigation. You also have the option of adding seat-mounted side-impact airbags for the front seats.

2011 Jeep Compass Lineup

The 2011 Jeep Compass is available in three trim levels. These include the Compass (4x2 or 4x4), Latitude (4x2 or 4x4) and Limited (4x2 or 4x4).

The Compass gets a 2.0 liter engine with a 5 speed manual transmission, media center with a CD/MP3 player, cloth seats, 60/40 split rear seats, 17-inch aluminum wheels, all season touring tires, power heated manual fold away mirrors, keyless entry, air conditioning, and cruise control.

The Latitude adds a power outlet, leather wrapped steering wheel, and steering wheel mounted audio controls, heated front seats, and remote start system. The Limited adds 18-inch aluminum wheels, an auto-dimming rear view mirror with microphone, air conditioning with automatic temperature control, electronic vehicle information center, and a bright exhaust tip.

Packages include a sunroof, navigation system, trailer tow prep, and trail rated package.

Fuel economy for the Compass is good. The 2.0 liter I-4 engine with the 5-speed manual transmission gets 23 miles per gallon in the city and 29 highway. Add the CVT2 transmission and highway mileage drops slightly to 27 miles per gallon. The 2.4-liter I-4 engine with the 5-speed manual transmission gets 23 miles per gallon in the city and 28 highway. Adding the CVT2 transmission means giving up some fuel economy. It drops to 21 miles per gallon in the city and 27 on the highway. Overall, though the fuel economy is decent for a vehicle of this caliber with this much performance.

Conclusions

The changes made to the 2011 Jeep Compass all work together to make the Compass a good option when shopping for a small crossover. In fact, add the Trail Rated package and you get a Compass that can perform nearly everything that the traditional Jeeps can with the added feature of being comfortable and smaller. It's a good value that many people will find attractive.
