Jeep's first-ever electrified model joined the lineup in 2021 with the announcement of the Wrangler 4xe, the brand's first venture into the realm of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. Now a top-ranked PHEV SUV, the Wrangler 4xe is a popular choice for drivers seeking the adventurous nature of the Wrangler with the driving range of a PHEV. We're proud to provide Philadelphia drivers with the latest models from Jeep, including the 2024 Jeep Wrangler 4xe.  If you're unsure whether a Wrangler 4xe is for you, continue reading below to see everything that they have to offer!

Turn Heads with the Wrangler's Iconic Design

The Wrangler 4xe may be its own model but at its core, it is still a Wrangler. Even to the untrained eye, the Jeep Wrangler is instantly recognizable. From the front end, it features the iconic upright seven-slot grille flanked by round headlights, which come standard with LED lighting for all 4xe models. Meanwhile, the wheels are covered by trapezoidal fender flares, adding to the Wrangler's rugged and iconic design. While technically its own model, the Wrangler 4xe is every bit a Wrangler as the gas-powered model. Therefore, of course, it features the open-air freedom that has made the Wrangler legendary, featuring a removable top, removable doors, and a fold-down windshield. This gives you unobstructed access to the air, sights, and sounds around you.

Minimize Range anxiety

When shopping for an electric vehicle of any kind, you'll hear the phrase range anxiety. This is the fear of running out of battery before reaching your destination. Range anxiety is most common among all-electric vehicle drivers. This is because hybrids and plug-in hybrids, like the Wrangler 4xe, have a gas-powered engine to supply power when the battery is depleted. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe minimizes range anxiety by taking you up to 370 miles on a full battery and full tank under normal driving conditions. Thanks to having two methods of power, Wrangler 4xe drivers can control the vehicle's usage with Jeep's advanced E-Selec buttons.  The default mode is hybrid, which provides a seamless blend of performance in driving range by using the gas-powered engine when accelerating and disabling it when coasting or decelerating. Meanwhile, for up to 21 miles of silent, emissions-free driving, electric mode disables the internal combustion engine, running solely on electric power. Finally, E-Save mode disables the electric motors, running solely on gas power to save battery power for a later time and recharge the battery using regenerative braking. Regenerative braking reverses the direction of the electrical current from the electric motor mounted to the front of the gas-powered engine, taking the kinetic energy created by braking, converting it into electricity, and sending it back to the battery.

Can I Still Take the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Off-Roading?

As we mentioned above, the Wrangler 4xe is every bit a Wrangler as the gas-powered model. It's important for us to note that the name 4xe stands for four-by-electric, conjoining the phrase four-by-four with electric. Therefore, just like the traditional Wrangler, all Wrangler 4xe models come with 4x4 as standard equipment. Jeep's Selec-Trac full-time automatic 4x4 comes standard with the Wrangler lineup. This system's transfer case runs in two-wheel drive on dry roads. However, on slick conditions, the system will automatically shift into four-wheel drive to maximize traction. For better control at low speeds, such as crawling over jagged or loose terrain, the transfer case can be shifted into 4-Low. Meanwhile, the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe comes standard with Rock-Trac 4x4. The Rock-Trac transfer case provides a 4:1 gear ratio, meaning for every four rotations of the transmission output shaft, the wheels turn once with a turn of the axle shafts. The result of this is higher levels of torque at lower speeds, making it easier to crawl over jagged terrain. For maximum off-road capability, the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe uses all the same equipment and features as the regular Rubicon, such as electronic sway bar disconnect, locking front and rear differentials, the Off-Road+ button, 33-inch all-terrain tires, and more.
