To do this, you must know what services to have done and when to do them. Here at Reedman-Toll Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, we want to help you care for your Wrangler. Continue reading below to get a detailed outline of the services your Wrangler needs to perform its best!

Every 8,000 Miles

Your Wrangler's first service should take place at or near 8,000 miles. This is when Jeep recommends getting its first oil change. Oil changes are a critical part of maintaining your Wrangler as it lubricates the engine's internals and prevents sludge, grinding, and overheating. With each oil change, the technician should also rotate the tires front to back to prevent uneven and premature tread wear. The technician will also inspect important systems, including the exhaust, brakes, steering, and suspension. All of these services should be performed every 8,000 miles going forward. However, if you tow cargo with your Wrangler or take it on rugged off-road trails, oil changes should take place more frequently, at about 5,000 or 6,000 miles, as these activities take a greater toll on your vehicle.

Every 30,000 Miles

After a few routine services, Jeep recommends having a technician check on a few more things. First and foremost, your Wrangler's engine air filter should be looked at and replaced if deemed necessary. Your air filter cleans out the air that enters your engine. Over time, this filter can become contaminated and clogged with dirt and road debris, which leads to decreased fuel economy and can even allow contaminants into the engine. If you take your Wrangler off-roading or drive on dirt roads often, this filter will most likely need replacement sooner. The fuel system should also be checked at around 30,000 miles, including the lines, connectors, and spark plugs. Contamination on the spark plugs can cause them to misfire, which will trigger a check engine light and decrease performance. The last three items to check are the drivetrain gearboxes, including the front differential, rear differential, and transfer case. Checking the seals on these gearboxes and the fluids inside them will ensure your Wrangler's 4x4 system continues performing its best.

Every 60,000 Miles and Beyond

Over the next 30,000 miles, you should continue performing oil changes and tire rotations every 8,000 miles. At 60,000 miles, the 30,000-mile services and checks should be performed again. If the spark plugs didn't require replacement at the 30,000-mile service, Jeep recommends having them replaced no later than 50,000 miles. If they have already been replaced, they should be inspected again at the 60,000-mile service. While the braking system should be inspected at every routine maintenance appointment, the pads and rotors can begin to show signs of their age under normal driving conditions at 60,000 miles and may need to be replaced. Your pads and rotors may have already been replaced if you spend the majority of your time driving in stop-and-go traffic. As your Wrangler's odometer reading nears the 100,000-mile mark, its positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve should be replaced to continue to properly recycle gases from the crankcase into the air intake system, as a faulty PCV valve can have a negative impact on your emissions.
