It's an exciting time for the Ram 1500 as the full-size pickup has been named a Top Safety Pick for 2019! Awarded by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety this is the highest rating given and will apply to the 2020 RAM 1500 pickups and 2019 trucks produced after May of this year. There are a ton of technical innovations that contributed to this award, including the adaptive LED projector headlamps with high-beam assist, Ram's Automatic Emergency Braking technology, and Forward Collision Mitigation. Of the six crashworthy evaluations executed by the IIHS, three simulate frontal impacts. And the Ram 1500 scored "good" marks in each, the highest possible rating.   

The safety story of the Ram 1500 begins with innovations such as the patented approach to frame-rail construction. The pickups frame-rails are splayed to handle crash energy in certain types of frontal collisions better. Also unique to the RAM 1500 is the use of the Integrated Radar Camera Module, which is used to pair with the Forward Collision Mitigation. This system consolidates radar and camera components located behind the vehicle's rearview mirror. It not only simplifies the interface but also keeps essential features out of the way in the event of small collisions. Elsewhere the Forward Collision Mitigation system for the RAM 1500 scored a superior rating from the IIHS. While optional, this feature boasts sensor-fusion technology that blends camera capability with radar detection to help determine when a crash is immediate. Forward Collision Mitigation will warn the driver to take action to avoid a collision, but if the driver does not take immediate action, the system will activate the breaks if there is still a risk. Also, the LED projector headlamps with high beam assist were refined in May of this year, allowing the RAM 1500 to earn the highest rating of "good." The 2019 Top Safety Pick rating is the culmination of many months in the spotlight for the Ram 1500 as it has also won Motor Trend Truck of the Year and Wards 10 Best Engines.
