2017 RAM 1500 vs 2017 GMC Sierra near Philadelphia, PA

If you're looking for a full-size pickup, the RAM 1500 and GMC Sierra are sure to be on your radar. Both offer positive traits, with the RAM 1500 being the only half-ton truck to have an available diesel engine with astonishing fuel economy and torque and with the Sierra offering the strongest V8 engine and tow rating in the class. When it comes to a truck, you want a vehicle that will work for you. Below you'll find some highlights about both of these great vehicles!

2017 RAM 1500 Power & Handling

The RAM 1500 has three strong engine options that many buyers will find meet all their needs. The first is the base-level 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. This engine achieves 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque and has a tow rating of up to 7,610 pounds when properly equipped. For stronger gasoline power, the 1500 is available with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine that cranks out 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque and has the best tow rating of the lineup, coming in at 10,640 pounds. The RAM 1500 has a third engine option, a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6. The 1500 prides itself on being the only half-ton pickup to offer a diesel engine, which offers incredible fuel economy. This engine creates 240 horsepower and an impressive 420 pound-feet of torque. Fuel economy with this engine is 21 miles per gallon city and 29 miles per gallon highway. Towing with this engine peaks at 9,210 pounds. The payload with the gasoline V6 is 1,890 pounds, 1,800 pounds with the V8, or 1,600 pounds with the diesel V6.

2017 GMC Sierra Power & Handling

The GMC Sierra offers three engine options as well. The first is a 4.3-liter V6 engine that's rated at 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque. This engine can haul up to 7,600 pounds. Alternatively, there's a 5.3-liter V8 engine that powers the Sierra with 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. This engine can tow up to 11,100 pounds. Finally, the Sierra is also offered with a 6.2-liter V8 engine that generates 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This engine offers towing abilities of 12,500 pounds.

2017 RAM 1500 Features & Design

The RAM 1500 has many configurations and trim levels including Tradesman, Express, HFE, SLT, Big Horn, Lone Star, Sport, Rebel, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited. The Tradesman offers a variety of features, including cruise control, a seven-pin wiring harness, automatic headlights, a tilting steering wheel, vinyl upholstery, a vinyl floor covering, a Class IV receiver hitch, a locking tailgate, air-conditioning, a rear backlight, a spray-in bedliner, and a sound system with six speakers, a USB port, and an auxiliary input jack. Configurations in the RAM 1500 include a regular cab that fits three passengers with a 6-foot-4-inch or an 8-foot bed, a Quad Cab that seats up to six and is paired with a 6-foot-4-inch bed, or a Crew Cab with room for six with a 5-foot-7-inch or 6-foot-4-inch bed.

2017 GMC Sierra Features & Design

The GMC Sierra comes with a variety of configurations as well but offers few trim levels. The four available trim options are base, SLE, SLT, and Denali. Standard features in the base are incredibly sparse, including only cruise control, air-conditioning, and a 7-inch touchscreen with AM/FM radio and USB/SD inputs. For configurations, you can opt for a regular three-passenger cab with a 6.5- or an 8-foot bed, a double cab with room for five or six with a 6.5-foot bed, or a crew cab with seating for five or six as well with a 5.8- or a 6.5-foot bed.

The 2017 RAM 1500 and 2017 GMC Sierra are both great pickup trucks. The GMC Sierra is a strong truck but offers limited flexibility. The RAM 1500, however, comes with plenty of customization, powerful engines, and a refined, well-trimmed interior. The 1500 is a contender for one of the best trucks in the class, especially with its exclusive EcoDiesel V6 engine option. We'd love to show you more about how other trucks in the segment compare to the RAM 1500. Come to Reedman-Toll today to find the perfect pickup for you!
