2012 Jeep Liberty Philadelphia
For 2012, Sport models are now available with UConnect hands-free connectivity, a universal garage door opener, compass, an exterior temperature gauge and satellite radio. Rear park assist is available for all Liberty trim levels.
There's also a new Liberty Limited Jet trim level that features 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, chrome accents and darkened headlight trim. Inside, there's a premium stereo, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls, one-touch up/down front power windows, and available Dark Slate Gray leather seats with accent stitching and front seat heaters.
'12 Jeep Liberty Power
The only power source for the Liberty is now a 3.7-liter V6. Featuring lightweight aluminum components, it produces 210 horsepower and 235 pound-feet of torque. It is connected to a standard fully synchronized six-speed manual transmission or optional four-speed automatic, which transfers power to either two wheels or all four. The automatic has a special tow-haul button to adjust gear shifting for better efficiency when towing. When properly equipped, the Liberty can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Both the Selec-Trac II and Command-Trac II four-wheel-drive systems are very well integrated into Liberty's various systems, including traction control, Electronic Stability Program, hill-start assist, hill-descent control and available trailer tow package. A 19.5-gallon fuel tank provides an approximate driving range of 389 miles. Fuel economy for two-wheel-drive models is 16 miles per gallon in the city and 22 on the highway. Four-wheel-drive models achieve only slightly lower numbers, at 15 mpg city and 21 highway. Featuring the Jeep-engineered, coil spring independent front suspension, 2012 Jeep Liberty combines excellent overall ride, handling and precise steering control on-road with Jeep 4x4 capability.
2012 Jeep Liberty Design
The new look of the Jeep Liberty appears rugged and boxy, much like its platform mate, the Dodge Nitro. The Liberty features Jeep's traditional seven-slot grille and trapezoidal fender flares that enhance the vehicle's side profile. Unlike many panoramic sunroofs offered today, Jeep's Sky Slider roof is made of canvas rather than glass. The fabric roof folds on itself as it opens, and Jeep says the top is leak-proof. The Liberty is unmistakable as a Jeep. The current model is 2.5 inches longer and 0.8 inch wider than the previous generation (2002-07), with a wheelbase that grows by 1.8 inches. Its tall, upright, angular styling fits with the current Jeep design idiom while also recalling the 1990s Cherokee. Whereas the last model had some soft lines and skewed 60/40 toward women buyers, Jeep feels the new model's more rugged looks will attract an even split of male/female buyers.
Inside the '12 Liberty
The interior of the Jeep Liberty is functional, not luxurious. Most drivers will like the high seating position. Head room in the front seat is plentiful, but the tallest drivers will want more available front leg room. The side mirrors are large and the cabin has a lot of glass, making for fine rear visibility. Available on Liberty Limited and Sport models is a Sky Slider roof, an expansive sunroof that is 3.5 times larger than a regular sunroof. A regular sunroof is also available. Other features available on the Liberty include rain-sensitive wipers, automatic temperature control, a six-speaker sound system and remote start. The Liberty gets a thicker matte-gunmetal-trimmed steering wheel, along with Bluetooth controls on the wheel, plus a matching trim on the door panels. The dash is punctuated with a new dark faux wood trim rather than the textured silver that was features on the 2011. The 2012 Jeep Liberty Renegade standard equipment includes new rock rail protection and black accent bodyside moldings for 2012.
Jeep Liberty Lineup
The Jeep Liberty is offered in three trim levels. The Sport 2WD, Sport 4WD, Limited, and Limited 4WD are available with two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. The Renegade is available only with four-wheel drive. The only engine is a 210-horsepower 3.7-liter V6, mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.
The Sport trim features include cloth upholstery, air conditioning, tilt steering wheel, 65/35 split folding rear seats, power mirrors, power locks, power windows, remote keyless entry, AM/FM/CD/MP3 stereo and auxiliary input jack, vehicle information center, and P225/75R16 all-season tires on aluminum wheels. Floor mats come standard.
The Liberty Renegade is offered in either Salsa Red Pearl Coat exterior, as well as Natural Green Pearl Coat, Deep Water Blue Pearl Coat, Bright Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat or Stone White Clear Coat and is distinguished by 16-inch wheels, dark neutral metallic wheel flares, lower side sills, front and rear fascia, body side moldings and rear license plate bar; black headlamp bezel; Argent Silver accent on the lower fascia appliqué and roof rack; Satin Black vinyl hood graphics; deep-tint glass; fog lamps; skid plates and tow hooks.
Limited come standard with Yes Essentials cloth upholstery, heated power mirrors, 368-watt Infinity sound system with eight speakers, cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel with redundant audio and vehicle information center controls, auto-dimming rearview mirror, roof rails, six-way power driver's seat, fold-flat front passenger seat, universal garage door opener, antitheft alarm, fog lamps, full-size spare and P235/65R17 all-season tires on aluminum wheels.
2012 Jeep Liberty's Jeep-engineered, coil spring independent front suspension combines with a link-coil rear suspension to provide exceptional on-road refinement, while maintaining its legendary Jeep 4x4 off-road capability and durability. Safety features include the mandated dual front airbags, plus head-protecting side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors and front side airbags for torso protection. Active safety features include anti-lock brakes with brake assist, hill start assist, traction control, and electronic stability control with rollover mitigation. The antilock brakes have rough road detection; when rough conditions are detected, the system holds the brake pulses longer to better slow the vehicle. Hill descent control is standard on 4x4 models. Optional safety features include trailer sway control and rear obstacle detection. For the latest updates on this model, visit the official Jeep Liberty site.
